Lidia, Denisa and Vanessa, three women with three destinies. But one thing unites them: in order to cope with their essential but also quite mundane problems of their bleak everyday life, the women prostitute themselves on a feeder road to Bucharest. Without an iota of voyeurism and yet relentlessly, the young director tells about the scanty expectations of the Romanian women. Driven by the hope of a better life, they stoically continue and refuse to be intimidated not even by the police. In the midst of utter dreariness all that they are left with is a ride home and some ice cream.
ALEXANDRA BALTEANU has received the coveted MAX-OPHÜLS-PRIZE twice this year for its realistic depiction of Romanian suburban reality. The jury praised her “directorial performance as honest, accurate, dramatic, funny, and unerringly credible.”
The production was realised at the DEUTSCHE FILM- UND FERNSEHAKADEMIE BERLIN and is part of the NEW SERIES, ZUKUNFT DES DEUTSCHEN FILMS [future of the German film] at the LICHTER Filmfest 2017.
